This is the first stage of constructing a building, and includes all the timber work involved till the building is ready for plastering. First fix carpentry includes:
- Framing, studwork, roof struts, and nogging.
- Floating floors.
- External staircases.
- Windows and window sills.
- External doors, plus all the door frames.
Second fix carpentry
Second fix carpentry covers the wood working tasks that come after the plastering has been completed. It covers finishing touches such as:
- Internal doors, and architraves to the door frames.
- Fitting windows into the frames.
- Skirting boards and other mouldings.
