Renovations and builds in Bridgewater, where established homes sit among steep terrain and mature bushland.
Building and renovating in Bridgewater.
Bridgewater is an established Hills suburb nestled along the freeway corridor between Crafers and Aldgate. Its mature trees, steep blocks and mid-century housing stock give it a distinct character.
Bauer Built has experience working on Bridgewater’s challenging sites, delivering renovations and outdoor structures that make the most of the terrain and views.
What shapes a Bridgewater build.
Steep block construction.
Many Bridgewater blocks have significant slope. We plan foundations, access and staging to work safely and efficiently on steep terrain.
Mid-century housing stock.
Homes from the 1960s and 70s are common. These often benefit from layout reconfiguration, insulation upgrades and modernised kitchens and bathrooms.
Mature trees and canopy.
Significant trees and native canopy are a feature of Bridgewater. We work around protected vegetation and plan construction to minimise impact.
Access and site logistics.
Steep driveways and narrow access are common. We plan deliveries, crane access and trade parking carefully to keep the build moving.
Working within Adelaide Hills Council.
We manage the approval and development process as part of the build. We know the council’s planning staff and what they ask for — whether your project needs heritage sign-off, a BAL assessment, or standard development approval.
Our services.

Outdoor rooms built to shelter, extend and last. Spotted gum, Merbau and steel, picked for Hills weather.

Kitchens built around how you actually cook. Custom joinery, stone benchtops, storage where you would reach for it.

Bathrooms built properly under the tiles, not just over them.

Whole-home reworks that rebalance dated layouts without tearing the character out.

Second dwellings built to the same standard as the main house.

New square metres that look like they belonged to the house all along.

Does the creek affect building in Bridgewater?
On the lower blocks it can. Stormwater and overland flow are worth establishing early, because they influence floor datum, subfloor ventilation and where a deck footing can go. We assess drainage before we price site works rather than after.
What is the housing stock like?
A mix of older cottages near the mill and mid-century homes on the surrounding blocks. Both tend to need the same things: light into the middle of the plan, and a kitchen that is not a corridor.
Can you match older brickwork?
Usually. Mortar colour and coursing matter more than the brick itself on this stock, and getting them wrong is what gives an extension away at the join. We survey what is there before anything is drawn.
