Building in Burnside.
Select renovation and outdoor living projects in Burnside and the eastern foothills — character homes that deserve the same care we bring to the Hills.
Building and renovating in Burnside.
Burnside sits at the foot of the Hills on the eastern edge of Adelaide — established streets of stone and red-brick homes from the 1920s through to the 1960s, on well-kept blocks with mature gardens. It is outside our core Hills area, but close enough down the freeway that we take on the right projects here.
Bauer Built has delivered complete kitchen and outdoor living transformations in Burnside, working with the character of these homes rather than against it — matching brickwork, respecting rooflines, and building new structures that look like they belong.
What shapes a Burnside build.
Character brick and stone homes.
Burnside’s housing stock is largely inter-war and post-war brick and stone. We match existing brickwork and detail junctions so new work sits comfortably against old.
Established gardens and access.
Mature trees and tight side access are the norm. We plan site access, protection and staging so the garden that makes the property is still there at handover.
Heritage and character overlays.
Parts of the City of Burnside carry historic conservation and character overlays. We flag what applies at the first site visit and design within it.
City of Burnside approvals.
Burnside falls under the City of Burnside, not the Hills councils we deal with daily — we manage their approval process as part of the project.
Recent work in Burnside.
Working within City of Burnside.
We manage the approval and development process as part of the build. We know the council’s planning staff and what they ask for — whether your project needs heritage sign-off, a BAL assessment, or standard development approval.
Our services.

Outdoor rooms built to shelter, extend and last. Spotted gum, Merbau and steel, picked for Hills weather.

Kitchens built around how you actually cook. Custom joinery, stone benchtops, storage where you would reach for it.

Bathrooms built properly under the tiles, not just over them.

Whole-home reworks that rebalance dated layouts without tearing the character out.

Second dwellings built to the same standard as the main house.

New square metres that look like they belonged to the house all along.
Building in Burnside.
Have you built in Burnside before?
Yes. We opened a red-brick Burnside classic up to its backyard with a new kitchen in black granite inside, and a gabled pavilion with an outdoor kitchen, Merbau decking and a fire pit terrace outside. It is documented on this site.
How hard is it to match Burnside brickwork?
It is the detail that decides whether an extension reads as original. Sandstone and rendered brick through Burnside are unforgiving about mortar colour and coursing, so we survey and match before anything is ordered.
Which council covers Burnside?
City of Burnside, which is a different planning environment from the Adelaide Hills Council areas we more often work in. Character and streetscape policy carries real weight across much of the council area.
Is Burnside inside your service area?
Yes. Adelaide's eastern suburbs sit within the area we regularly work in, and Burnside is the part of it we know best.
