We will flag those early, while it is all still on paper. If you are working with a designer we build to their plan, and if you are not, we can put you onto someone. From there Jake coordinates the cabinetmaker, the stonemason, the electrician and the plumber so the install runs as one sequence instead of three return visits.
What we focus on.
Where the bin, the bench and the fridge end up matters more than the finish does. If there is a problem in the plan, we will say so before it is built.
Joinery comes from cabinetmakers we work with regularly. We set out the openings and the services so it fits properly on install day.
We will tell you how a benchtop or a finish holds up in a working kitchen. The choice is yours, but you will get our honest read on it.

Old Hills kitchens, common problems.
The kitchens we are asked to rework run from 1920s cottages through to houses built in the last twenty years, and they fail on the same handful of things: a galley too narrow for two people, a fridge that blocks the walkway, and no bench beside the oven. The house changes township to township, sandstone and timber detailing in Stirling and Aldgate, weatherboard in Lobethal and Charleston, brick through Mount Barker and Burnside, but the layout problem does not.
What does change is what is behind the wall. In an older kitchen the plumbing, the gas and a fair bit of the electrical usually have to move before any cabinetry is ordered. That work is where most of the money and most of the time goes, and it is the part people do not budget for.

It depends on the scope and on cabinetry lead times, which are usually the long pole. We will give you a realistic program up front rather than an optimistic one.
Do you handle all trades for the renovation?
Yes. We coordinate the full build including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, tiling and cabinetry so you have one point of contact.
Can you improve the layout, not just replace finishes?
Yes, and that is usually where the real gain is. We can move a kitchen to another part of the house, take a wall out to open it up to the living area, or rework the run you already have. Anything structural needs an engineer, and we will tell you early if that is what you are looking at.
Do you supply custom cabinetry?
We are not cabinetmakers ourselves. We work with cabinetmakers we trust and can put you onto them, then set out the openings and the services so it installs properly. You are welcome to use your own supplier if you have one.
Can we stay in the home during the renovation?
Often yes, but it depends on the extent of works and whether services need to be disconnected. We’ll talk you through practical options before starting.
